I first meet SERGEJ VUTUC at a wonderful outlaw totally off-the-grid, wild & absolute de-constructed show put on by . . . JOCKO WEYLAND of ELK ZINE & his sometimes, roving / pop-up .. ELK GALLERY,
in the ROCKAWAYS !! ROCKAWAY BEACH – back in SEPT 2011.
the show was called:
SERGEJ VUTUC & LELE – LIVE FROM USA (!!)

photographer SERGEJ VUTUC originally hails from the BALKANS, CROATIA.
LARS GREIWE is a photographer from GERMANY, and DAVID COULIAU is a documentary filmmaker/cameraman – from FRANCE.

SOME INTERNATIONAL UNDERGROUND NEWS, JUST IN FROM: SERGEJ VUTUC ..
I post this, not just because the graphics are superlative, and the content is a-m-a-z-i-n-g, but because it is interesting to look beyond our little island bursting with cutting edge ‘creatives’ .. to see how American culture, the best of it – the drive and strive for personal freedom and freedom of e-x-p-r-e-s-s-i-on .. is like a seed that blows around the whole world and often sets off a spark on a foreign shore, that is very different in it’s impact & endurance – than it’s ‘current’ cultural ‘footprint’ – here at home.

NYC is very ego-centric. center of the art world supposedly, and all that. sometimes .. we forget there is .. a whole wide world – out there !!

“for a few years my old friend from Zagreb, ZUBAK, wrote to me about idea to make skatefilm festival in Fanzana, Istrien, CROATIA … few weeks later he send me some photos of parking place/playground where they did it .. raw and full of passion to do something and share with this wooden toy made many things in Fazana different than normal life looks … today start 3rd festival with list of one of the greatest films at the moment in skateboarding and exhibition with list of friends from Balkan but also overseas.”

turns out to be an auspicious date – weather-wise.
the gods were NOT smiling down on the art world last night.
all the openings last nite – got rained out, and I mean rained out !!
severe pounding rain, lightning, thunder, the works – from exactly 7-9 PM. so that was that.
today is sunny & like .. butter would not melt in your mouth. rain, what rain ?
the first show is called, ‘UP IN SMOKE’ – it’s a group show featuring works by: JOSEPH HART, MATT LEINES, LEIF LOW-BEER, PAUL WACKERS and RYAN WALLACE.
the show will run thru OCT 6, 2013.
