the card for: BEN FURGAL, ‘WICKED WARRIORS’, December 28 – January 18, 2007
at the CAKE SHOP, 152 LUDLOW ST, on the Lower East Side.
THE SHOW’S BEEN EXTENDED TIL: MONDAY, FEB 13th
… so there’s still a chance to check out this young artist’s paper collages.
Ben also made the black and white ‘op-art’ wallpaper.
BEN FURGAL is as much a ‘mover and groover’ – as an ambitious artist in his own right, developing a reputation for his curating and networking on the behalf of all the ‘cool’ artists, musicians and performance collectives, he constantly seems to have radar out for. Currently living and working in BALTIMORE, Ben plans to re-locate back to New York City this Spring. Although the living is easy and the rents are cheap, he misses the galleries.
Ben began his art networking while he was at SUNY, PURCHASE – which seems to have
had a very dynamic scene that was just getting into full swing when he began his art studies there. He graduated with a BFA, SUNY PURCHASE this past May 2006.
THE CAKE SHOP is an interesting little shop: coffee shop in the front, with changing art shows on the walls; record store in the back; bar and performance space downstairs, in the basement – showcasing mostly indie and ‘art’ bands.
The CAKE SHOP is run by ANDY BODER.

JEREMY HYMEN and KEVIN O’MEARA, at ANTHOLOGY FILM ARCHIVES, Sept 29, 2006 (scroll down)
we first encountered BEN & post his photo – while he was working the front desk, as an unpaid intern at Sixtyseven: Jan 20, 2006 (scroll down the photo’s on the bottom row.)

TONY MATELLI just opened an amazing show, not so much for the APES, but
the .. ‘successful weed’, .. the dying prayer plants, and .. the burning $100 bills,
of the hi-tech: ‘Fuck it, Free Yourself”.
… its the unusual combination of casualness and high tech production, not to mention virtuosity, that really give the show its kick.

.. the card for the book signing of ‘DESIRE/DESPAIR’ by JACK PIERSON, at PRINTED MATTER.
The reception took place just before Christmas, December 21, 2006.
The book is published by RIZZOLI.
at the time, we weren’t sure if this point of view at Christmastime, represented the spirit
of the season, … for the majority, though it surely happened to resonnate on a personal level for artlovers.
You can now see the book featured in BARNES and NOBLES bookstore windows.
… and it’s turns out … we’re not the only ones to dig ‘DESIRE/DESPAIR’. Jack’s got a another big fan
in LAURA OWENS.
