EISENSTAT, co-author, &#8216;Glorious American Quilts&#8217; (1996)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While popular interest in America&#8217;s past was sparked by the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial exposition and promoted by the spread of the arts and crafts movement in the late 19th century, it was the colonial revival of the early 20th century that truly inspired women to search their attics and basements for antique quilts and, failing that, to sew their own interpretations of the old-time bedcovers using natural, unadorned materials in simple designs.
