DEITCH PROJECTS launched ‘NEST’ – a big, tough and beautiful, hardcover photo-based art book, at SANTOS PARTY HOUSE, 100 LAFAYETTE ST, below Canal St. last week, MONDAY, SEPT 15, 2008 – to be exact !! <\/p>\n

as well as, a smaller, but still well produced paperback ‘fan’ book for KEMBRA PFAHLER, titled ‘BEAUTALISM’ – in which .. “Artist KEMBRA PFAHLER, Lead singer of rock band THE VOLUPTUOUS HORROR OF KAREN BLACK takes you behind the scenes of her 2008 Whitney Biennial Project and beyond for Beautalism, Butt prints, Body paint and ROCK AND ROLL.”<\/p>\n

\nJOE BRADLEY’S CHEESEBURGER was a no-show. but KEMBRA PFAHLER’S band: THE VOLUPTUOUS HORROR OF KAREN BLACK – did show, strut butt naked & PLAY !! pretty good music … in fact theywere more than pretty good – they were pretty d-r-i-v-i-n-g. Amazon tall in-your-face skinny chicks, with huge hair, (which at some point various members of the band – including Kembra – tore off in big chunks and threw to the audience) – and one KABUKI-like chubby white one – 100% naked under a skin dusting coat of shocking pink body powder ? paint ? they didn’t have their usual ‘shocking’ vagina\/sex ‘props’ with them – caught in transit on the way to some museum, Boston ? – for an upcoming show – which might have been just as well to my mind – though they make for great pix in the book !! – thought they were pretty interested as is – stripped down and just playing their music – instead of playing their props. SPECIAL GUEST, ARMEN RA from LA on the THERAMIN – was very goth. then TV BABY !! – did a sweet, as in super driving short set. DAN COLEN was a no-show, but DASH SNOW ambled in at some point – just in time to catch TV BABY. His book – ‘NEST’ – for his SECRET SNOW BABY !! – is big, beautiful, tough and raw !! – a very top drawer art book – that’s gonna be on everybody’s coffee table, no doubt about it. <\/p>\n
