JANE KAUFMAN, an artist in her own right, is also an original founding member of the GUERRILLA GIRLS – an all-female – give me that F word !! – activist group that sprung up in gritty NEW YORK CITY in 1985. <\/p>\n
a collection of spirited, damn serious politically-radical not-to-mention passionate in-your-face women, it operates as an anonymous collective that wears gorilla masks in public, and uses the names of dead woman artists – when speaking in public. KATHE KOLOWITZ and FRIDA KHALO, anybody listening. you bet.<\/p>\n
they retained their anonymity I’m told until just recently. April 2009, when they all came out at a big party the GETTY MUSEUM gave them – to honor the museum’s purchase of their archive. <\/p>\n
