NEWBURGH, NY \/ NEWBURGH SCULPTURE PROJECT<br \/>\nAug 10, 2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-.-.-Newburgh.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-.-.-Newburgh.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40730\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDanilel Giordano, and his other outdoor sculpture &#8211; on view this summer in Newburgh.<br \/>\nthe most interesting aspect of this 2nd outdoor sculpture, which stood in the heart of town,<br \/>\nas opposed to dominating a college garden grounds, (and, facing the water, btw) . . was <strong>not<\/strong> so much the visual or conceptual impact, as its . .  fluidity.<br \/>\nlike a totem, or a flag pole . . it held its ground as the world <strong>spun<\/strong> around it \/ 360 degrees.<br \/>\nand, as it did so &#8211; it made you .  . look more \/ and realize the place \/ in the moment.<br \/>\nwith greater awareness, as opposed to just . .  you know, walking down the street.<\/p>\n<p>note: the &#8216;Gregory Crewdson&#8217; . .  like, historic, small North-eastern town, movie theater on the right \/ RITZ.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-interactive-sculpture.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-interactive-sculpture.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40736\" \/><\/a><br \/>\napparently, the sculpture had inadvertently &#8211; become &#8216;interactive&#8217;.<br \/>\nsomebody had tied a red kerchief &#8211; to it !!<br \/>\nI&#8217;m taking that to mean, in the greater sense \/ that the &#8216;tribe&#8217; of the entire town .  . had taken note \/ of this crazy, compelling  . .  proud wild and free &#8216;stake&#8217;,  planted among their midst. <\/p>\n<p>DANIEL GIORDANO, &#8216;Self-Portrait While Fixated on the Juicy Lips of Megan&#8217;s Eclipse&#8217;, 2019.<br \/>\nmoisturizing face masks, copper, steel, steel wool, azurite, iron ore, various plastics, cable ties, bells from Santa&#8217;s sleigh, stone, railroad spikes, wire hanger, cattails, Tang drink mix, epoxy, spit balls (toilet paper, saliva, phosphorescent acrylic, acrylic polymer emulsion) \/ 79 x 60 x 36 in. <\/p>\n<p>Daniel Giordano &#8211; is <strong>not<\/strong> a minimalist, when it comes to his materials \/ he&#8217;s more of a  . . grab this earth \/ and run with the &#8216;fury&#8217; kind of guy.<br \/>\nall part &#038; parcel of  . . historic references \/  esp industrial era vs digital \/ rage about the &#8216;machine&#8217; \/ current society etc etc \/ and def, all about put down that device and come <strong>see<\/strong> the thing.<br \/>\nexperience the &#8216;fury&#8217;, thunder, and yes: sweetness. lust. love. questioning.<br \/>\nin a word: young men on the cusp &#8211; of taking over. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-view.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-view.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40741\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe circle dance &#8211; begins \/ the unexpected camouflage kicks in \/ as you move around the &#8216;pole&#8217;.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s most definite a kind of anti-Koons \/ anti-Urs Fischer \/ call-to-arms . . in its own &#8216;thrown-together&#8217; way.<\/p>\n<p>this part of Newburgh is so interesting, there is still a real rural \/ urban . . sweep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Newburgh . .<\/strong> is also considered part of the &#8216;Hudson Valley&#8217; &#8211; as the thriving, aggregate art scene upstate refers to itself \/ DIA Beacon helped kick the gears.<br \/>\nmy first experience was through a more underground route &#8211; the BOBO COLLECTIVE: &#8216;HOT MUD FEST&#8217; of Aug 2017, an highly wild interactive music, performance \/ art show . . on a big ole farm, with a creek running through it \/ Spook Rock Road, Hudson.<br \/>\nsee: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Newburgh,_New_York\">Newburgh, NY <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-self-portrait.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-self-portrait.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40744\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthough, what makes Daniel Giordano <strong>so<\/strong> interesting, is that he <strong>is<\/strong> a native-born son  . .  of the area.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-newburgh-self-portrait.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-newburgh-self-portrait.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40746\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nnow that&#8217;s a . . self-portrait, if I ever did see one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-close-up.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-close-up.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40748\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe fluidity of the basically stationary, rigid, metal &#8216;pole&#8217; &#8211; within its environment \/ was a big part of the experience.<br \/>\nso contrarian \/ of a visual fact.<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s my daughter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-outdoor-sculpture.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-Giordano-outdoor-sculpture.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40750\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwell you could gaze, and walk around the piece in a trance, for quite a while.<br \/>\nand then, suddenly . . you are on the other side \/ and the ride is over.<br \/>\nanother part of my art loving tribe: my son.<br \/>\nmy kids are <strong>also <\/strong>natives, but of another &#8216;historic&#8217; NY art scene  \/ both being born on the gritty Lower East Side, of Manhattan in the 80s.<br \/>\nNY is such a huge hub for artists \/ it&#8217;s interesting when you bump into a true native-born son.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-and-my-pup.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Daniel-and-my-pup.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-40752\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDaniel . . and the small art world tribe \/ that drove up that Saturday from NYC, BROOKLYN \/ &#038; NJ.<br \/>\nwhat a <strong>great<\/strong> day for a car trip, nice ride. good roads. pleasant scenery \/ not much more than an hr. each way.<br \/>\neverybody had a great time.<br \/>\nincluding my big poochie, Zora. a 100 lb.
