FRI JAN 25, 2019<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michaelbargo.com\/\">GALERIE MICHAEL BARGO<\/a>, CHINATOWN<\/p>\n<p>PIX &#8211; FROM THE OPENING:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-FOURTEEN-GEARS-NYC-JAN-2019.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-FOURTEEN-GEARS-NYC-JAN-2019.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39157\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nLUKE TODD, at the opening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-14-gears.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-14-gears.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39160\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nindustrial, yet graceful.<br \/>\nset in a specific motion, opaque in color, and yet: a void \/ a mind-set.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-3-shapes.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-3-shapes.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39163\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe surfaces, their metallic nature  . .  violated the white walls.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-gears-1.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-gears-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39166\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe struggle between my camera, and the flat sculptures &#8211; was more &#8216;kinetic&#8217;, than the actual gear movement.<br \/>\nthe interlocking, interloping teeth, of the almost random-shaped . . circles \/ ovals . .  moved very very slowly,<br \/>\nas if grace were more important, than raw speed ?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-gears-up-close.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-gears-up-close.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39167\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit prob had a lot to do with the complexity of the shapes, and it might have been more effective visually, to have seen the shapes move . .  more dynamically, more graphically, but then ?<br \/>\nwould we be thinking &#8211; about them, so much ? <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-hidden-gears.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-hidden-gears.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39169\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nprob your best bet, for realizing the &#8216;wheels&#8217; . . &#8216;turn&#8217;, and eat, or meet and greet  . . each other,<br \/>\nwould be the wired, mechanical works in the back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-mechanical-secrets.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-mechanical-secrets.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"594\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39171\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthat was an interesting &#8216;angle&#8217;, to entertain . .  at an art show.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-todd-freestanding-mechanical-works.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-todd-freestanding-mechanical-works.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39173\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nnot all the &#8216;mechanical works&#8217;, were wall pieces . .<br \/>\nsome were . . free-standing, yet still quite &#8211;  wired.<br \/>\ntheir contrast to reality, was heightened by the Chinatown window scene.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-.-.-red-gears.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-.-.-red-gears.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1152\" height=\"864\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39175\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nand they weren&#8217;t all black &#8211; some were red.<br \/>\nbut again, a perfect pitch &#8211; for a mechanical piece.<\/p>\n<p>very much in contrast, to the world &#8211;  we have to move through.<br \/>\n&#8220;your taxes were lowered \/ but your refund is less, much less.&#8221;  \/ wtf<br \/>\nnothing is black &#038; white.<br \/>\nnothing is what it seems \/ or what we are told. nobody really believes anything,  they are told.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s all  . . smoke &#038; mirrors.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s all . .  spin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-the-quiet-spin.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/Luke-Todd-the-quiet-spin.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39176\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthere was something about that barely moving, quiet &#8216;spin&#8217; &#8211; that was <strong>so <\/strong>pervasive.<br \/>\n&#038; in a way, in which a more aggressive, or obvious &#8216;gear&#8217; spin &#8211; would not \/ have not been.<br \/>\na kind of  . . spiritual &#8216;temperature&#8217;. <\/p>\n<p>and yet, also a . .  VALENTINE.<\/p>\n<p>red &#8216;hearts&#8217;, running along the wall.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-14-gears-opening.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/LUKE-TODD-14-gears-opening.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"1056\" height=\"792\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-39179\" \/><\/a><br \/>\npeople got real social, at the opening.<br \/>\nthe quiet accomplishment of the show  \/ pulsed in a warm way &#8211; strange, considering it was so mechanical ?!!<br \/>\nit&#8217;s hard to condense the beauty of this show, or define .  . it&#8217;s effectiveness.<br \/>\nquiet . . interlocking ?<\/p>\n<p>PHOTOS: NANCY SMITH<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>the quiet . .
