MARCH 11, 2018<br \/>\nit&#8217;s wild !!<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t miss it.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.essexflowers.us\/\">ESSEX FLOWERS<\/a>, 19 MONROE ST., CHINATOWN<br \/>\nHRS: SAT &#038; SUN \/ 12-6 PM &#038; by appointment<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Philip-Hinge-Emily-Janowick-ESSEX-FLOWERS.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Philip-Hinge-Emily-Janowick-ESSEX-FLOWERS.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36171\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPHILIP HINGE of CATBOX CONTEMPORARY, with EMILY JANOWICK.<br \/>\nEmily Janowick was the co-curator of the recent &#8216;THE BIG SHORT&#8217;, up at Hunter.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.catboxcontemporary.com\/\">CATBOX CONTEMPORARY<\/a> has an off-gallery  . . &#8216;CATELLITE&#8217; installation &#8211;  in the ESSEX FLOWERS &#8216;HOME EDITION&#8217; show, too !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Michael-Mahalhick-LIZZIEWRIGHT-Essex-Flowers.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Michael-Mahalhick-LIZZIEWRIGHT-Essex-Flowers.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36174\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMICHAEL MAHALCHICK &#038; LIZZIE WRIGHT.<br \/>\nLizzie made those eerie, neon-colored LED lamps . . that had sent the magic dial way up,  in the darkened front room, at the nighttime opening !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Essex-Flowers-Michael-Mahalchick-Lizzie-Wright.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Essex-Flowers-Michael-Mahalchick-Lizzie-Wright.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36176\" \/><\/a><br \/>\none of Lizzie&#8217;s lamps to the right.<br \/>\nMAHALCHICK had an &#8216;inter-dimensional&#8217; installation, that was right under my repaired, early 20th C. crib quilt !! the auditory part of it was a mint condition \/ vintage Mickey Mouse portable vinyl record player !! just what every kid had in their basement, back in the day, maybe from the 50s ?<br \/>\nand . . it worked. <\/p>\n<p>so it was a little bit of &#8216;home&#8217; &#8216;decor&#8217; history  . . in dialog.<br \/>\neven at that, maybe a 30 year difference in age, between the log cabin patchwork quilt and the factory-made record player, it was such a <strong>big<\/strong> leap in . . family culture, and kid &#8216;dynamics&#8217;. visuals \/ graphics. fabrication. spirit. though both were very . . lively, when you broke it down into basics \/ and &#8216;kid&#8217; joyful.<\/p>\n<p>I totally loved how it said . . &#8220;hi kids!&#8221; !!!!!<br \/>\nunder my re-paired quilt \/ since it was <strong>so <\/strong>long in the making, for <strong>anybody<\/strong> to take my re-claimed \/ preservation-minded, creative-stitched  \/ quilt projects seriously.<br \/>\nfinally . .  a home, even if temporary. a &#8216;rental&#8217;, lol.<br \/>\na baby footstep into the art world conversation.<br \/>\nthank you, co-curator JEFFREY TRANCHELL &#038;  . . ESSEX FLOWERS !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/HOME-EDITION-ESSEX-FLOWERS.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/HOME-EDITION-ESSEX-FLOWERS.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36178\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthe Mahalchick record player sat on a curious, but very useful, moveable, fluid, segmented wooden table, &#8216;Squat&#8217; by SARA MURPHY. the table was very adaptable, and was also more &#8216;illustrative&#8217; \/ of like, a Greek  goddess ? from a proper angle.<br \/>\nit was actually split into two parts \/ with another part,  just around the corner.<br \/>\nSara had a foot, in both rooms.<\/p>\n<p>in the background, on the right, is a  glimpse of a very animated, wall divider: a &#8216;Privacy Screen&#8217; by RUFUS TUREEN. silkscreen, acrylic, hollow doors, canvas.<br \/>\nall these elements &#8211; wove together.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/RUFUS-TUREEN-privacy-wall.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/RUFUS-TUREEN-privacy-wall.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36189\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ndetail, RUFUS TUREEN . . &#8216;Privacy Screen&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Mahalchick-records.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Mahalchick-records.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36180\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMahalchick had these strange, talk-about-dark-magic !! vintage, vinyl albums . . re-purposed, into 3-d artwork,  &#038; oh oh . .  BABY !!<br \/>\na little wild child baby, under the once raggedy, now happy  . .  baby crib quilt.<br \/>\n&#8216;Home is where the heart is !!&#8221; ~MELISSA BROWN.<\/p>\n<p>you can see the naked &#8216;butt&#8217; of the Sara Murphy &#8216;goddess&#8217; table, now . . !!<br \/>\nFERTILITY !! oh la la. &#038; a big issue re: HOME.<\/p>\n<p>that is a rough &#038; wild, DIY hand-woven rag rug by MICHAEL WELSH, on the floor. one of the other few items  &#8211; that managed to hold a place &#8211; in both rooms \/ day or night, every chic home  . . needs a nice, cushy rug !!<br \/>\nalso very traditional, btw &#8211; in the form &#038; in the making. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Mahalchick-rubber-album-essex-flowers.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Mahalchick-rubber-album-essex-flowers.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36185\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMICHAEL MAHALCHICK, &#8216;standard&#8217; LPS, anything, but.<br \/>\nhe encased them in some kind of weird pigment, rubber combo. very durable as artworks, btw. at $500 a pop, a very good deal. a sculpture, really.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Andrea-McGinty-Flag.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Andrea-McGinty-Flag.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"486\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-36187\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nre: pigment.<br \/>\nthat swirl of &#8216;tie-dye&#8217;,  was a &#8216;Flag&#8217;, by ANDREA McGINTY.<br \/>\na kind of even more . .
