SUN JAN 14, 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>PHOTOS FROM THE OPENING:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-NEW-GREY-PLANET.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-NEW-GREY-PLANET.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35288\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBLINN &#038; LAMBERT . . .<br \/>\naka NICHOLAS STEINDORF &#038; KYLE WILLIAMS<\/p>\n<p>these 2 artist-scientists . .<br \/>\n&#8220;who met in the MFA Painting program at YALE joined as &#8216;BLINN &#038; LAMBERT&#8217; in 2016 to collaboratively <strong>expand<\/strong> their interests in OPTICAL media, special effects, digital projection, and computer animation &#8211; the latter of which is reflected in their name,  which references two basic material surface options in  a 3D animation software: reflective (Blinn) and matte (Lambert).&#8221;<br \/>\n~<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microscopegallery.com\/?page_id=20343\">gallery <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-lambert-color-separation-glasses.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-lambert-color-separation-glasses.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"547\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35290\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&#8220;In new sculptures, familiar objects of varying <strong>transparency<\/strong> and reflective qualities are <strong>illuminated<\/strong> by two projected <strong>streams<\/strong> of light &#8211; <strong>one red, one blue<\/strong> &#8211; which <strong>cast<\/strong> shadows on the gallery walls or &#8216;screen&#8217; behind them to form a <strong>floating<\/strong> 3D imagery viewable with <strong>anaglyph<\/strong> cyan\/red glasses.<br \/>\nEach work instigates a dialog among the real objects, their shadows, and their virtual translations.&#8221;<br \/>\n~<a href=\"http:\/\/www.microscopegallery.com\/?page_id=20343\">gallery<\/a><\/p>\n<p>*that is <em>unless<\/em> you were biologically \/ hyper-sensitive to radical light \/ &#038; became radically <strong>dis-oriented<\/strong> by extreme cyan-red color separation \/ &#038; just plain old &#8216;motion sickness&#8217; prone !! is the only way I can explain it. it was definite a spectrum . . of tolerance.<br \/>\nat the worst end of the spectrum, you just stumbled &#038; tried not to tumble into the pieces or people in the pitch black room . .<br \/>\nthis constructed &#038; manipulated environment was not navigational for all. <\/p>\n<p>*I later came to realize, that though I <strong>might<\/strong> have . .  a super high functioning \/ hyper-tuned <strong>radar<\/strong> . . for art, and art conception per se . .<br \/>\ncoping with radically separated light projection &#8211; was <strong>not<\/strong> my thing.<br \/>\nthere&#8217;s radar, and then there&#8217;s radar, of all kinds of other frequencies, I guess.<\/p>\n<p>*at any rate, I definite fell at the extreme &#038; failing end of the cyna\/red coping spectrum.<br \/>\nthe cyan-red separation had me color blind. motion sick. imperiled. fragile.<br \/>\nbut, maybe that&#8217;s also part of the plan \/ the point being to achieve dis-orientation to varying degrees within the audience.<br \/>\npeople were dis-oriented at different levels, but I know I was the worst, what a loser.<br \/>\n&#8216;STRUGGLE&#8217; . .  was my mantra \/ damn you .. Blinn &#038; Lambert !!<\/p>\n<p>*re: dis-orientation \/ artist-scientists . . jokers !!<br \/>\nBLINN &#038; LAMBERT knew exactly what kind of chaos they were bringing down on their audience, just look at those two, grins from here to there.<br \/>\nnot to mention \/ space travel. and the 2 suns of &#8216;Solaris&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>*re: floating, lol: STUDIO GHIBLI &#8211; was !! part of the dialog !!<br \/>\nas in . .  Floating castles, etc etc. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-SPACE-STATION.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-SPACE-STATION.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35293\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBLINN &#038; LAMBERT, &#8216;Untitled (Broom, Out)&#8217;, 2017.<br \/>\nfound glass objects, mylar sculptures, styrofoam sculptures, rubber ball, tennis racquet, drawing on glass, fabric, magnifying glass, glass table, steel legs, two video projectors. 82 x 80 x 84 in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The works in &#8216;New Grey Planet&#8217; are situated within a loose <strong>fictional<\/strong> narrative concerning a <strong>space station<\/strong> \/  <strong>orbiting a newly discovered planet with two suns<\/strong> &#8211; one <em>red<\/em>, one <em>blue<\/em> &#8211; and the recreation room in which free-floating objects &#8216;from home&#8217; can be found&#8221; . .  inspired most overtly by . . .  &#8220;Stanislaw Lem&#8217;s book <em>Solaris<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>*I&#8217;m thinking . .  they should have <strong>had<\/strong> text excerpts, such as these &#8211; put up on the walls, before one entered, you know like they do &#8211; in museums.<br \/>\nor as hand-outs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-room-black.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-room-black.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35294\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nat any rate, moving through the gorgeous \/ large,  pitch black room,  one definite had the intuitive sense, that something . .  sci fi \/ was going down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-NEW-GREY-PLANET-real-objects.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-NEW-GREY-PLANET-real-objects.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35336\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit was elegant, trippy.<br \/>\nreal objects. fictional space.<br \/>\nkind of Jack Goldstein meets Chaim Steinbach and does a double take into . .  Futurama.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/blinn-lambert-smaller-elements.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/blinn-lambert-smaller-elements.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35299\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthere were also smaller &#8216;elements&#8217;  placed in front of the larger sculpture \/ &#8216;diarama&#8217; units, which contributed to the spatial dis-orientation \/ peripheral vision \/ color separation challenge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-a-deer.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-a-deer.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35301\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwhile, on one long wall . . a rushing \/ swirling, nature-referencing &#8216;video&#8217; &#8211; further contributed to the spatial dis-construct !!<\/p>\n<p>BLINN &#038; LAMBERT, &#8216;Doe, a Deer&#8217;, 2017.<br \/>\nHD single-channel <strong>stereoscopic<\/strong> 3D video, silent \/ 4 minutes 4 seconds<br \/>\nedition of 3 + 2 APs<br \/>\n(price upon request \/ as with all the other sculptures)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-2.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"562\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35304\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthis loop &#8211; was like:  here, space trippers, are your biosphere <em>memories<\/em> of life on earth, fast forward.<br \/>\ndon&#8217;t blink.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-3.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-3.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35305\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit was also an interesting dynamic &#8211; to see how the audience became active &#8216;players&#8217; in the artificial light charade. moving . .  random bio &#8216;parts&#8217; \/ within the hyper-constructed Blinn &#038; Lambert . . . drama of an artificial environment. classic black \/ cut-out craft-type silhouettes.<br \/>\nsuper diy \/ &#038; in real time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-4.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-Doe-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35307\" \/><\/a><br \/>\na school of fish ?<br \/>\na torrent of leaves ?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-the-deer.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Blinn-Lambert-the-deer.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35308\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nyou begin to pick up . . on the deer head.<br \/>\na beautiful metaphor, it starts off so enchantingly . . . <em> abstract <\/em>!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-Lambert-deer-2.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-Lambert-deer-2.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35310\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n&#8216;Doe, a Deer&#8217;.<br \/>\nI kind of felt like a deer, in that environment of radical optical separated light.<br \/>\nvery fragile.<br \/>\nI know other people were stunned  . . too.<br \/>\ndifferent degrees of light tolerance \/ different degrees of . . separation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-Theo-Cerigo-Helene-Luptakin.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/BLINN-LAMBERT-Theo-Cerigo-Helene-Luptakin.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35312\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTHEO, and HELENE !!<br \/>\na little bit rocky, but not &#8211;
