NICHOLAS was loving  . . hanging between these 2 old Lower East Side legends !!<br \/>\nnot to mention the real life fauna background,  was a <strong>real<\/strong> boon for his artwork !!<br \/>\nin fact, NICHOLAS made it a point to tell me, the spontaneous raw \/ &#038; casual vibe  . . of the fair was really fun for him. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/detail-NICHOLAS-STEINDORF.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/detail-NICHOLAS-STEINDORF.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"521\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34650\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNICHOLAS STEINDORF . . the prints were color separated, not just color saturated !!<br \/>\nand you caught the best bang, when you looked at them . .  through 3-D glasses.<br \/>\nthough I thought they were pretty rockin&#8217; out &#8211; just as is. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/looking-at-Nicholas-Steindorf-color-seraration.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/looking-at-Nicholas-Steindorf-color-seraration.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34649\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nlooking at NICHOLAS STEINDORF&#8217;S color separations !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nicholas-Steindorf-3-d-glasses.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nicholas-Steindorf-3-d-glasses.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34652\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwe had plenty of 3-D glasses on board, and they &#038; Nicholas&#8217;s work &#8211; were a big hit with the Casual Art Fair goers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NANCY-SMITH-double-wedding-band-quilt-repair-.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/NANCY-SMITH-double-wedding-band-quilt-repair-.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34654\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNANCY SMITH &#8211; &#8216;Double Wedding Band&#8217; quilt repair &#8211; &#8216;Dedicated to EMILY DICKINSON&#8217;.<br \/>\nmy newest quilt project was very subdued, compared to the wild and wacky &#8216;100 and 1 Dalmatians&#8217; Disney crib quilt repair project  \/  I showed at the fair with ESSEX FLOWERS, last year.<br \/>\nwhich had been . .  a real show stopper.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t care &#8211; repairing quilts is <strong>always<\/strong> about &#8211; change !!<br \/>\nand something . .  new \/ some things just come on slower, but then &#8211;  they make a really big BANG.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nancy-Smith-Emily-Dickinson-quilt.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nancy-Smith-Emily-Dickinson-quilt.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34656\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nanyways, I was  <strong>hosting <\/strong> this booth, so I was quite content to let my invited guests . . do the flower, bloom &#038; shine !!<br \/>\nthis was all about . . <strong>being Emily Dickinson !!<\/strong><br \/>\nquiet. gracious, humble. but <em>secretly<\/em> . . intense, concise, to the point, skilled. killer.<br \/>\nfull of workmanship &#038; tiny elements \/ poetry. reveling in nature. leaving the &#8216;humans&#8217; behind.<br \/>\nrepairing quilts is . .  very much a channeling. a ghost play. a ghost army of one. a ghost army of LOVE.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nancy-Smith-repaired-quilt.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Nancy-Smith-repaired-quilt.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34657\" \/><\/a><br \/>\neven the more so, because this particular quilt is actually  . . a vintage, <strong>commercial<\/strong> ca 1980s-90s \/ CHINESE &#8216;REPLICA&#8217; \/ CHEAP &#8216;REPRODUCTION&#8217; QUILT. <\/p>\n<p>still &#8216;hand-sewn&#8217;,  but by some poor day laborer in a Chinese knock-off factory !!<br \/>\nthe word  . . <strong>counterfeit<\/strong> does come to mind !!<br \/>\nthe &#8220;Real Fake&#8217; . . quilt ??? <\/p>\n<p>one of the clues to its &#8216;faux&#8217; origin is the <strong>textile<\/strong> pattern, it&#8217;s slightly off for being more Chinese than American, in color and tonality \/ and of course &#8211; how it is <strong>not<\/strong>  cut into piecework. but patterned into &#8216;faux&#8217; piecework.<br \/>\nas well, the lack of precision . . through-out.<\/p>\n<p>but still,  these <strong>are<\/strong> really fun to work on, and developing a new context for them, Emily Dickinson lol,  . .  is all, <strong>PART OF THE GAME &#8211; FOR ME.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DAN-ASHER-drawing-digit.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/DAN-ASHER-drawing-digit.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34659\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ntalking about . . small elements, humble. concise and, meaningful.<br \/>\nwe showed a rare &#038; early DAN ASHER pencil drawing, a &#8216;finger print&#8217;<br \/>\na lot of people were very confused by these, when DAN first put them forward, late 1980s.<br \/>\nminimalism &#8211; hadn&#8217;t quite gone this far . .  minimal !! yet !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Dan-Asher-finger-print-artloversnewyork.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Dan-Asher-finger-print-artloversnewyork.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34660\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDAN ASHER . .  bring on the ghost army !!<br \/>\nif you are wondering how I come to have these, I worked as Dan&#8217;s studio assistant,  in trade for his art work.<br \/>\nsmarts &#8211; is smarts \/ esp in the art world.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/James-Miller-minimal-painting.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/James-Miller-minimal-painting.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34662\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nsmall elements !!<br \/>\nI mean look at how Dan&#8217;s graphite piece <strong>converses<\/strong> so well, with this cutting edge \/ minimalist painting &#8211; with just 3 tiny elements of colored light &#8211;  by JAMES MILLER, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>I guess if our booth <strong>had <\/strong>a theme it was:  faux, faux, faux and  . . . go !!<br \/>\nsmall elements,  and counterfeits . .  of the soul !!<br \/>\ndamn, that&#8217;s EROTIC !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/THEO-CERIGO-ELISE-McMAHON-casual-art-fair.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/THEO-CERIGO-ELISE-McMAHON-casual-art-fair.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-34663\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTHEO CERIGO, the ARTLOVERSNEWYORK booth curator, with . .
