I mean that&#8217;s ok, but just <strong>don&#8217;t <\/strong>call your museum . . the epitome of <em>contemporary<\/em> art. it&#8217;s not. I mean JACK GOLDSTEIN is great, and I would commend the collection just for that .  . but he&#8217;s been dead for decades. and most telling, the recent auction prices for ELI BROAD favorite . .  CINDY SHERMAN have gone very very soft, and, ditto for JEFF KOONS.<br \/>\nGREGORY CREWDSON, is one of the only ones, in the &#8216;collection&#8217;-  who I would consider: still really alive and kicking.<\/p>\n<p>ok. Eli has 2 spray paint fabric paintings by STERLING RUBY. good. and they are nice ones.<br \/>\nbut where&#8217;s the Joe BRADLEY ? the Maurizio CATTELAN ?<br \/>\nhe has a MURAKAMI, but where&#8217;s . . the BARRY McGEE ?<br \/>\nand even <strong>these<\/strong> guys you know, they are <strong>not<\/strong> puppies. they are not raging foam-ers straight up from the street.  they all made their names back in the early 2000s. so, come on &#8211; that&#8217;s already over 15 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>in general &#8211; &#8216;contemporary&#8217; is getting to be a pretty obsolete term. the deal is I once heard him, Eli speak about how he was buying Cindy Shermans right off the presses  &#8211; back in the day. the early 80s. that&#8217;s good, but see  . . that&#8217;s the funny thing about the at world, it&#8217;s 2016. <\/p>\n<p>and, so <strong>whose<\/strong> work is the much touted titan of &#8216;cutting edge&#8217; buying at auction  &#8211; this season \/ MAY 2016 ?<br \/>\nSAM FRANCIS &#8211; !!  I kid you not.<br \/>\nI wrote my god damn <strong>high school<\/strong> art final &#8211; on Sam Francis, and that was back in the 60s. along with the Beatles. and I wanna hold your hand. if that helps put things in perspective.<br \/>\nyeah, he bought Sam Francis &#8216;Summer #1&#8217;, 1957 &#8211;  for $10.35 Million.<br \/>\nimpressed ? neither am I.<\/p>\n<p>let me tell: oh yeah. if he <strong>really<\/strong> had that great an &#8216;eye&#8217;, with that kind of ($$) dough, he could be <em>really<\/em> cleaning up &#8211;  on the <strong>really<\/strong> contemporary art scene. he could vacuum up the whole scene, and snort it right back out his nose &#8211; at auction in 10 years. like he did with Cindy and the rest of the &#8216;Picture&#8217; generation crew.<\/p>\n<p>he <strong>might<\/strong> have a really really nice, middle-of-the-road, no surprises &#8211; 80s &#8216;contemporary art&#8217; collection &#8211; but just don&#8217;t tell me &#8211;  that he&#8217;s  . . a rolling stone.<\/p>\n<p>and, I mean it doesn&#8217;t even have to be &#8216;today&#8217;. but it has to be <strong>brilliant<\/strong>.<br \/>\nto my way of thinking, VIRGINIA DWAN with her patronage of MICHAEL HEIZER &#8211; now that outdoes ELI BROAD, hands down.<\/p>\n<p>now &#8211; if ELI BROAD had some <strong>DAN ASHERS<\/strong>, seriously . . I would be bowing down and kissing the green-billed trail of earth he walks on. but I&#8217;m not giving him any crown. sorry. <\/p>\n<p>whatever. go read artinfo if it makes you happy.<br \/>\nlol,<strong> LOUISE BLOUIN<\/strong> is on the scandalous tax evading Panama Papers list !! <\/p>\n<p>just some . .  out-to-lunch ramblings on a lazy day. why ?<br \/>\nbecause . .  I can.  something about raw talent &#8211; popping up from the underground.<br \/>\nbrings out the best &#8211;  in me.<\/p>\n<p>but . . .  <\/p>\n<p><strong>Back to the future !!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>how many ways and things about this . .
