all kinds, included hand stitched items, vintage tatting &#038; even some &#8211; quilts.<br \/>\nthe family runs &#8216;Archive Editions&#8217; &#8211; which produces new &#8216;reproduction&#8217; textiles from the designs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/store-lace-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/store-lace-.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"store---lace--\" width=\"641\" height=\"481\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26620\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/store-lace-.jpg 641w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/store-lace--300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthis is early, 1920s onward . . and most likely handmade even though it was hand &#8216;packaged&#8217; for sale &#8211; prob later than it was made ??<br \/>\nmaybe for sale . . in the 40s or 50s, or even later, 70s  . .  in a thrift or junk or vintage shop  ?<br \/>\nNote $5 ea. !!<br \/>\nit&#8217;s a bit of a mystery, but always fun to see original packaging.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-tatting-cro.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-tatting-cro.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"art-deco-era----tatting-cro\" width=\"648\" height=\"486\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26618\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-tatting-cro.jpg 648w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-tatting-cro-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nbut, it&#8217;s beautiful.<br \/>\nup here in the North East, you can find this kind of tiny multi-pattern hand stitched &#8216;fanci-work&#8217; work, tatting &#038; done with a micro crochet hooks,  among the old Scottish families, esp of Long Island, NY.<br \/>\nit was a handmade lace to attach to hand-made dresses \/ and borders of nightgowns.<br \/>\nthis is very art deco, 1930s .<br \/>\nprob made in the 20s or at the latest 30s,  very Egyptian &#8211; influenced.<br \/>\nthis was the era when they were discovering Egyptian tombs, and opening them up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-bottom-row.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-bottom-row.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"art-deco-era---bottom-row\" width=\"648\" height=\"486\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-bottom-row.jpg 648w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/art-deco-era-bottom-row-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit seems to made of a &#8216;bleached&#8217; yarn, as opposed, to the more sepia-tinted hues of older raw, unprocessed linen . . crochet\/tatting thread \/ aka &#8216;twist&#8217; &#8211; dating at least, as far back as the American Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>all vintage hand-stitching, including quilt repair, and vintage textile collecting in general, is a GREAT, BIG, MERRY FEAST &#8211; for any &#038; all history buffs . . who love to un-ravel  &#8211; a mystery !!<br \/>\nhand or needle skills, patterns &#038; materials &#8211; will all eventually tell their<strong> own <\/strong> story, an unwinding of origin, and lifestyle, that extends well beyond . .  &#8216;what you see &#8211;  out in KANSAS CITY. he said he had a great time with Bill, who wouldn&#8217;t ?<br \/>\nBILL is the coolest !!<br \/>\nand, he also told me  bit of Brooklyn history &#8211; !!<br \/>\nthis storefront . .  used to be ANDREW GUENTHER&#8217;S studio &#8211; made to adorn the hand-made clothing of the turn of the century,  even into the 30s, 40s. you can see the &#8216;outline&#8217; of a clothing shape, e.g. the cut-out for the neck  &#8211; in the remnant.<br \/>\nit was prob an Edwardian or Victorian woman&#8217;s blouse.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/diamond-close-up-Marley-lac.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/diamond-close-up-Marley-lac.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"diamond-close-up-Marley-lac\" width=\"648\" height=\"486\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26634\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/diamond-close-up-Marley-lac.jpg 648w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/diamond-close-up-Marley-lac-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 648px) 100vw, 648px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nfrom the coarser or more heavy-duty quality of the cloth,  and the from the simpler stitching, but &#8216;magical&#8217; pattern, it&#8217;s my guess, this piece is earlier than the piece detailed above.<br \/>\nbut, there&#8217;s no point getting all gnarly,  &#038; lost in the history, it&#8217;s effect is prob even dynamic &#038; bold, spiritual  &#8211;  even still.<br \/>\nesp to fans of &#8216;authentic&#8217; hand-made retro Americana. hello Japan.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/set-by-THEO.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/set-by-THEO.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"set-by-THEO\" width=\"486\" height=\"648\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26638\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/set-by-THEO.jpg 486w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/set-by-THEO-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nMarley brought a broad range of vintage textiles, the majority of which in fact &#8211; were not &#8211;  women&#8217;s hand-stitched \/ handiwork.<br \/>\nthis was a set of 6 different, commercially printed  &#8216;cocktail&#8217; or bar . . napkins  &#8211; from the 50s, or 60s !!<br \/>\nquelle fun !!
