FRIEZE ART FAIR WEEK, NYC 2014.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/national-arts-club-founta.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/national-arts-club-founta.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"national-arts-club---founta\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21542\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/national-arts-club-founta.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/national-arts-club-founta-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit was the perfect storm.<br \/>\nthe perfect &#8216;invasion&#8217;.<br \/>\nthe perfect clash between posh (the venue) and  . . what&#8217;s happening &#8211; heavy !!<br \/>\nthe perfect antidote vs. the mostly academia-driven . . art fairs.<br \/>\nexcept, for maybe the MARIE LORENZ hand-made rowboat, a nice inclusion . .<br \/>\npicturesque.<br \/>\nbut, wake up &#8211; this is work from over a decade ago, not exactly cutting edge.<br \/>\nwell, maybe that is .. cutting edge &#8211;  to the status quo ?<br \/>\nthough still, a nice . .  &#8216;island&#8217; theme &#8211; touch.<\/p>\n<p>but, &#8216;It&#8217;s An Invasion&#8217; . . stood for something, and lived up to it.<br \/>\nthat being: the big &#8216;challenge&#8217;.<br \/>\nas in . .  &#8216;throw-down, baby&#8217; !! to the otherwise absolutely stifling status quo &#8211; here in NYC.<br \/>\nthe fact that it happened at the otherwise staid National Arts Club &#8211; was just, a happy riot of competing visual signals &#8211;  to another.<br \/>\nfunny thing, when he answered . .  I got a &#8216;London calling&#8217; kind of feeling.<br \/>\nthe accent, the grace, duh.<\/p>\n<p>sure enough, besides being artist &#038; curator &#8211; he is also a Brit guitarist, he used to play with DIRTY PRETTY THINGS, one of our recently departed music reviewer Simon Cerigo&#8217;s faves  . . oh well, c&#8217;est la vie. no words possible on that score, anymore.<br \/>\nanyways, seems JOSH HUBBARD recently joined forces with singer MICHAEL IAN CUMMINGS to form the New York City based-band . . . . was not around the day I passed by, but he has a pretty big, and mighty &#8216;hip&#8217; presence on the web, just google him.<\/p>\n<p>and, re: the dark walls.<br \/>\nin fact, as I look back at the installation pix, I&#8217;m liking more and more &#8211;
