ONE MORE LOOK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>there&#8217;s so much going on out there  . . this month.<br \/>\nsome real good stuff.<\/p>\n<p>but before we move on, ONE LAST LOOK. <\/p>\n<p>ONE LAST &#8216;TRIPPIN&#8217; the light, lightly !!<\/p>\n<p>ONE LAST &#8216;TRIPPIN&#8217; . . the light fantastic !! <\/p>\n<p>KEITH SONNIER &#8211; &#8216;ELYSIAN PLAIN + EARLY WORKS&#8217;<br \/>\nJAN 24 &#8211; FEB 22, 2014<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacegallery.com\/newyork\/exhibitions\/12609\/keith-sonnier\">PACE<\/a> &#8211; 510 W 25th ST &#8211; CHELSEA, NYC<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/early-current-Sonnier.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/early-current-Sonnier.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"early-&amp;-current-Sonnier\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/early-current-Sonnier.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/early-current-Sonnier-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nKEITH SONNIER, (left) &#8216;Neon Wrapping Incandescent&#8217;, 1969. and, (right) &#8216;Mirrored Slant&#8217;, 2013.<br \/>\nthis is an interesting juxtaposition of .. an early work, and a later, as in &#8216;happening . . right now&#8217; piece.<br \/>\nwe lose the incandescent bulb, the roping neon tube . . and gain instead, as dancing partner: a shaped flat mirror, and a shaped flat acrylic surface. more &#8216;ghost&#8217; in the machine . .  less &#8216;drawing&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>more . . &#8216;scientific&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>it&#8217;s also pink and blue, though the pink is more acid, but that sharp rind  . .  yellow &#8211; nails it.<\/p>\n<p>the neon light elements move further back into the &#8216;distance&#8217;, and decrease in &#8216;volume&#8217; &#8211; but their dynamic, the visual play of their &#8216;sharp&#8217; color hues, and minimalist spacing . .  is just as strong &#8211; wherein lies the great beauty of this piece.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/little-robot-man.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/little-robot-man.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"little-robot-man\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/little-robot-man.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/little-robot-man-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nKEITH SONNIER, &#8216;Mirrored Slant&#8217;, 2013. neon, glass,  mirror, acrylic, aluminum, electrical wire, transformer.<br \/>\n9&#8242; 6-1\/2&#8243; x 76-1\/2&#8243; x 17&#8243;.<br \/>\n($225,000) <\/p>\n<p>reflection, refraction. transparency, hue. dot dot dash.<\/p>\n<p>what I also love about this piece, is . .  how anthropomorphic &#8211; it is !!<br \/>\nit looks just like a little robot man &#8211; from a future planet !!<br \/>\nor maybe even us, when our bio\/wired digital integration is  . . complete.<br \/>\nwhat . . they say: a brother from another . . mother.<\/p>\n<p>I was thinking, too bad it&#8217;s not wireless, but then again, maybe it&#8217;s just &#8216;charging&#8217; !!<br \/>\nI mean there is always going to be the &#8216;juice&#8217;, the energy source, even in TRON.<\/p>\n<p>but if you also read about the inherent &#8216;fold&#8217; and &#8216;open&#8217; power in micro bacteria, you know what.<br \/>\nmaybe . . NOT !!<br \/>\nyep: energizer bunny !! Bacterium !!<br \/>\nsee: <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/news\/articles\/SB10001424052702304626804579362771227187770\">BACTERIA as GENERATORS of ELECTRICITY &#8211; WALL ST JOURNAL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>(if the link doesn&#8217;t work for you, just re-paste &#8216;THE ENERGIZER BACTERIUM&#8217; in your browser \/ as if we all don&#8217;t want to get paid for content . . )<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mirror-vs-plexi-viewpoint.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mirror-vs-plexi-viewpoint.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"mirror-vs-plexi-&amp;-viewpoint\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mirror-vs-plexi-viewpoint.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/mirror-vs-plexi-viewpoint-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit&#8217;s interesting to &#8216;integrate&#8217; with the piece, even though it&#8217;s flat and structurally &#8216;finite&#8217; on the wall, as you move, you can see different depths of field in the reflections.<br \/>\nso, go on: break that . . &#8216;plane&#8217; !!<\/p>\n<p>it&#8217;s also interesting to compare the &#8216;mirror&#8217; to the &#8216;acrylic&#8217; surface  . . very subtle, but quite the game changer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/just-charging.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/just-charging.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"just-charging\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/just-charging.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/just-charging-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI absolutely adore how those two dashes of acid pink sit there, so exquisite.<br \/>\nlike two  . .<br \/>\nlittle hands.<\/p>\n<p>and then .. how the bottom acrylic panel extends slightly outward, with almost human balancing stance, and then, how the yellow neon tubing was put <strong>against<\/strong> the back wall, instead of up against .. that jut forward.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s all those little details that bring great humanity, and beauty, to the piece.<\/p>\n<p>it&#8217;s like the opposite of &#8216;brutality&#8217;.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s like the hand of god, the presence of man .. in its most graceful aspect .. that you would follow, and hope could change the world, and it does . . for the brief moments you spend with it.<\/p>\n<p>it&#8217;s the opposite of &#8216;Wolf of Wall Street.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>that&#8217;s . . the take-away. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/interactive.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/interactive.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"interactive\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/interactive.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/interactive-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit&#8217;s definitely: interactive.<br \/>\nfinite \/ infinite.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/reductionmagic.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/reductionmagic.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"reductionmagic\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20281\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/reductionmagic.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/reductionmagic-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit&#8217;s definitely: the ghost in the machine !!<\/p>\n<p>some people trade in hedge funds, penny stocks, and IPOs . . and others \/ in dash dot dash . . <\/p>\n<p>PHOTOS: NANCY SMITH<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>there&#8217;s so much going on out there . . this month. some real good stuff. but before we move on, ONE LAST LOOK.
