<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-people-in-our-cre.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-people-in-our-cre.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"abeline---people-in-our-cre\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-people-in-our-cre.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-people-in-our-cre-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nIN OUR CREW . . . love this, or what ?!!<\/p>\n<p>talk about &#8216;pure&#8217; information graphics . .  !!<\/p>\n<p>Abeline&#8217;s offering ?<br \/>\nthis was also: expression . .  from the first person.<br \/>\ngrowing up, TRIBECA.<br \/>\nlooking out, at the world &#8211; from home base.<br \/>\nthis was . . bio.<br \/>\nthis was: the real deal . . as I see it, and where my thinking comes from.<\/p>\n<p>when the LENA DUNHAM re-touched photos &#8216;revolt&#8217; hit the fan, this past week . . Abeline&#8217;s  work went straight to the top &#8211; POP !!<br \/>\nthis show was about growing up, NEW YORK. girl side !! <\/p>\n<p>you know: tween girl struggles with her body image, her circle of pals, her social status, her self-image.<br \/>\nher self-esteem, her self-worth. the works.<br \/>\nin a very &#8216;play ball&#8217; hard-striving city . .  full of way tough, out-size grown-ups.<br \/>\nand one downed Twin Tower right smack in the  middle of it.<\/p>\n<p>LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE meet . .  MILLENNIALS OF MANHATTAN !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-happy-bday-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-happy-bday-.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"abeline---happy-b&#039;day-\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-happy-bday-.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/abeline-happy-bday--300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthis show was a lot about growing up &#8211; specifically in Lower Manhattan. the TWIN TOWERS being crashed down, violently &#8211; just when these kids started to hit self-awareness,  apparently impacted the territorial &#038; self-defining instincts of a lot of this young crew &#8211; esp the boy Peter Pans. but it didn&#8217;t define them, or strip away their &#8216;magic&#8217;. <\/p>\n<p>Abeline&#8217;s contribution was the Little Pink <strong>Pony<\/strong>, GIRL side of things, of growing up  . . New York City.<\/p>\n<p>in a format one can simply put as: the real &#8216;archives&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/walking-upstairs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/walking-upstairs.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"walking-upstairs\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/walking-upstairs.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/walking-upstairs-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ngrowing up in New York City, has its very own magic spell, initiation rites, and cultural colorings . . and thus begat: 15 WARREN.<\/p>\n<p>ABELINE was a big part of this accomplishment. as a curator, and as a participating artist.<\/p>\n<p>she nailed the &#8216;real deal&#8217; . . just as surely as her friends did.<br \/>\nshe provided . .  the childhood &#8216;notebook&#8217;.<br \/>\nthe &#8216;rules&#8217; of &#8216;engagement.<br \/>\nthe childhood . . touchstones.<\/p>\n<p>15 WARREN. it all broke down, and it all . . added up.<br \/>\nbroke down into individual statements, and added up to one huge art party.<\/p>\n<p>BYE THE WAY:<br \/>\nthis is what the WHITNEY BIENNIAL . . . is supposed to be, but isn&#8217;t anymore.<\/p>\n<p>perhaps that&#8217;s because the WHITNEY BIENNIAL sprang from a pre-digital era, and the powers that &#8216;think&#8217; they be . . ??, haven&#8217;t caught up to the reality.<br \/>\nwhich is . . the accelerated real time speed &#8211;  in which we all live, and communicate through &#8211; now. <\/p>\n<p>things not only <em>happen<\/em> much faster now, and closer to the &#8216;bone&#8217;, but there&#8217;s absolutely <strong>no<\/strong> formal &#8216;status quo&#8217; per se, anymore. credibility resides in the &#8216;street&#8217;.<br \/>\n&#8216;street cred&#8217; . . has never had more profound meaning, than it <em>does<\/em> . .  today. <\/p>\n<p>if you don&#8217;t have a social media &#8216;voice &#8216; &#8211; you don&#8217;t have anything.<\/p>\n<p>moving from established &#8216;museums&#8217;, to established art &#8216;critics&#8217;, read New York Times, ART IN AMERICA, yes, even INTERVIEW . . can not, no longer define the winners . .<br \/>\nthey can&#8217;t even &#8216;keep up&#8217; !!<br \/>\nto the real juice \/ the real art energy . . as it: pops. <\/p>\n<p>with the speed of internet\/web &#8216;publishing&#8217; &#038; its vibrant partner, the passionate voices that rise from the openness of &#8216;social media&#8217; . .<br \/>\nthe once mighty art world and its beholden &#8216;print&#8217; establishment, can no longer define  . . and even more importantly, can no longer &#8216;hamper&#8217; . .  the real &#8216;word&#8217; on the street, from getting out.<\/p>\n<p>if this show wasn&#8217;t about the revolt of the street vs the established powers that thought they be, then write that damn NYC art   . . &#8216;obit&#8217;, already !! <\/p>\n<p>because most of the established art media, galleries, and museums, in this town, are way .. over.<br \/>\nthey are just sad &#8216;dinosaur&#8217; relics of a long ago time.<br \/>\nwhether they know it, or not. they lost the &#8216;beat&#8217;. they dropped the ball.<br \/>\nI mean, seriously.<\/p>\n<p>one great pop-up . . can obliterate decades worth of &#8216;careful&#8217; gallery-groomed artist &#8216;stables&#8217; &#038; museum-curated output.<\/p>\n<p>as for the &#8216;stogy&#8217; critics who support them, RIP.<\/p>\n<p><strong>someone just recently asked . . <\/strong><br \/>\nwhen the WHITNEY BIENNIAL 2014 BUZZ would begin.<br \/>\nbegin ?<br \/>\nit&#8217;s already over. this <em>was<\/em> the BIENNIAL, the crucible of what&#8217;s supposed  . .  to be the &#8216;New York City cutting edge&#8217;, and the way things travel, at the digital\/speed of light &#8211;  these days, guess what ?<br \/>\nif you blinked, you missed it.<\/p>\n<p>turns out, buzz is a  . . 4 letter word, too. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/363883753754048\/\">15 WARREN STREET, 10007<\/a><\/p>\n<p>MORE PIX, to follow.<\/p>\n<p>PHOTOS: NANCY SMITH<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ABELINE COHEN, one of the 3 curators of 15 WARREN, with her own work &#8211; which was displayed against a stairwell wall. journal-like scribbles and mementos . . from her childhood. there&#8217;s some kind of real &#8216;crusty&#8217; code, that says: exhibition curators . . shouldn&#8217;t display their own work ?
