I was surprised to see how much more complicated, and often more colorful his work had become.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-3\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17525\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-3.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-3-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nthere was also a greater sense of &#8216;pushing the envelope&#8217;, literally  ..paint work becoming 3D. and a sense of humor  . . that I didn&#8217;t get from the 109 show photos, which felt more angst-ridden, mysterious and questioning.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-4\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17527\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-4.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nJAMES MILLER . .<br \/>\nthere was a real painterly scramble \/ explosion  . . going on at each end of the studio.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-5.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-5\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17528\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-5.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-5-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwhoa.<br \/>\nthis was not just &#8216;going against the grain&#8217; &#8211; it was actually pretty &#8216;fun&#8217;, for all it&#8217;s serious endeavor.<br \/>\npure abstract &#8211; can be well, p-r-e-t-t-y &#8211; wild !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-6.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-6\" width=\"727\" height=\"545\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-6.jpg 727w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-6-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 727px) 100vw, 727px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nwas it me ?<br \/>\nI saw &#8230; shades of &#8230; l&#8217;il Abner ?!!!!!<br \/>\nOrphan Annie and  .. all things comics 50&#8217;s !! in the swirl of a brush.<br \/>\nI guess they call that .. POP ART.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/james-miller-7.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/james-miller-7.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"james-miller-#-7\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17530\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/james-miller-7.jpg 540w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/james-miller-7-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nbut I also caught sight of more restrained pieces &#8211; that were more along the lines of the pieces that had been shown at 109 &#8211; but they were much much better. really evolved. really focused. more experimental on the one hand, but way more realized .. as well.<br \/>\nI really liked this one &#8211; alot. it was my fav. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-8.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-8\" width=\"724\" height=\"543\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17532\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-8.jpg 724w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-8-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 724px) 100vw, 724px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nit was quite subtle and left room &#8211; for thought. more so than the big collage 3-D type plastic color explosions, for me anyways.<br \/>\nthough maybe it was just that CONTRAST .. that helped get me there.<\/p>\n<p>I also found some rare humor in the pure minimal play. the lines, the interaction of the blob shapes, the teaser field of color &#8211; the drop-off \/ deconstruction \/ holes in the canvas. it was a thinking thing at play &#8211; always to be in .. motion.<\/p>\n<p>I know, it&#8217;s crazy .. but it even though it&#8217;s such a &#8216;quiet&#8217; painting .. it reminds me now, of those great real life .. &#8216;whale&#8217; encounters at sea &#8211; that pop up on YouTube.<br \/>\nit was a fun mental trip \/ flip.<br \/>\npainting \/ nature.<\/p>\n<p>which I&#8217;m sure was totally out of mind for the painter .. but connecting dots, esp ones so far out &#8211; how fun is that. the brain really  .. at work, no ? yes !!<br \/>\nway, way beyond the .. square.<br \/>\nthe nutshell definition, and .. meaning of: art ?<br \/>\nsee: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JU3TPGAd-7ohttp:\/\/\">HUMPBACK WHALE SURPRISES KAYAKERS\/YouTube<br \/>\n <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"James-miller-#-9\" width=\"720\" height=\"540\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-17539\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-9.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/James-miller-9-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nalong the same lines ..
