CHINGLISH, or what ?!! <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>you know, &#8216;Chinglish&#8217; &#8211; a kind of mangled English &#8211; most commonly encountered when reading a how-to-manual accompanying a cheap made-in-China product.<\/p>\n<p>SO: just to show how &#8216;locked-in&#8217; accurate &#8211; those centuries-old &#8216;celestial&#8217; astronomer\/astrologer &#8216;brandings&#8217; were, across once greatly separated and very diverse patches of culture, and . . . how well their [very complicated] information . . . traveled through the ages . . . <\/p>\n<p>consider this 2012 Christmas ornament, found in a local 99 cent store !!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Chinese-Xmas-ornament-2012.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Chinese-Xmas-ornament-2012.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Chinese-Xmas-ornament-2012\" width=\"1011\" height=\"758\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15303\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Chinese-Xmas-ornament-2012.jpg 1011w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/Chinese-Xmas-ornament-2012-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1011px) 100vw, 1011px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>ok. so it&#8217;s a great color &#8211; scarlet red, even though it&#8217;s made of thin, but hard plastic, and it&#8217;s nicely reflective, too. and, YES !! the white glittery ornamentation &#8211; is hand-painted !! the whole deal, 2 for 1 dollar &#8211; !! &#8211; approximates &#8216;real&#8217; vintage Xmas ornaments &#8211; pretty nicely. but, there&#8217;s something mighty weird about it, no ?<br \/>\nsomething is definitely &#8211; OFF.  <\/p>\n<p>what the hell . .  is that FERN-LIKE &#8216;flower&#8217; or tropical tree-like shape &#8211; ablowin&#8217; . . .  in the snowy wind ?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/paper-xmas-trees-.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/paper-xmas-trees-.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"paper-xmas-trees-\" width=\"1008\" height=\"733\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15304\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/paper-xmas-trees-.jpg 1008w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/paper-xmas-trees--300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1008px) 100vw, 1008px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I guess this is what &#8211; they were really, or originally going after . . .  snow-covered Christmas tress !!<br \/>\n. . .  rising out of the snow-covered ground, but having never <em>experienced<\/em> the reality, or just somebody dropped the ball design-wise ? the Chinese factory-worker artisans switched, as in inverted &#8211; the organic orientation, and put them  &#8211; upside-down !!<br \/>\nChingle bells, or what !!<br \/>\nyep, something got lost in the translation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/antiqueglassballs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/antiqueglassballs.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"antiqueglassballs\" width=\"500\" height=\"354\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15305\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/antiqueglassballs.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/antiqueglassballs-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nPHOTO: antique Christmas ornaments c\/o <a href=\"http:\/\/fleamarket.about.com\/od\/decoratelikeapro\/ig\/Vintage-Christmas-Ornaments\/Glass-Ball-Ornaments.--93.htm\">Vintage Christmas Ornaments<\/a><\/p>\n<p>these are the exact type of antique Christmas ball ornaments &#8211; that the Chinese 99 cent marketers were hoping to emulate. Made of shiny glass, they have hand-painted snowy glittery white scenes, greetings &#038; details. I think I even have one or two with that exact snowy Christmas tree scene, but not exactly on hand. they are pretty common, or were. too bad there aren&#8217;t any in the collection pictured, above.<br \/>\nwhat an interesting graphic mix-up.<br \/>\nthe implications re the transmission of &#8216;garbled&#8217; multi-cultural info &#8211; in today&#8217;s global\/babel world is apparently wide-open, you can only respect the ancients &#8211; for the strength and accuracy of their art, &#8216;branding&#8217; &#038; informational graphics. <\/p>\n<p>PHOTOS &#038; ARTWORK: NANCY SMITH, unless otherwise noted.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chingle bells, chingle bells . . .
