LEVINE in front of his monolith of a work on paper: &#8216;VANINA!&#8217;<br \/>\nyou can get a better sense of the scale here !!<br \/>\nit took a little  over 2 months of obsessive scribbling to complete, and consumed over 70 pencils, believe it.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s retained all that intense detailed handling, and plus (!!) the surface has become imbued with the amassed waxy totality of the over-all pencil density, adding a layer of mystery and an ambience that&#8217;s hard to describe in words, but is powerful in person.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s like a monolith &#8211; an emotional wall &#8211; straight out of a sci-fi movie.<br \/>\nit dominates the room &#8211; like a 2 dimensional, thinking, breathing, pulsating way-way-future robot, if not life form !!<br \/>\nwhen we are all reduced to planes, the better to deep space travel. believe it !!<br \/>\norigami rules the space race.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-center-c.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-center-c.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"David-X.-Levine---center-&#039;c\" width=\"799\" height=\"1066\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-center-c.jpg 799w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-center-c-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-center-c-767x1024.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ndetail, DAVID X. LEVINE, &#8216;VANINA!&#8217;.<br \/>\nit&#8217;s also got a weird sexuality, esp for a monolith. comprised of two over-sized artist grade pieces of paper &#8211; the center &#8220;crack&#8221; takes on a very sexual overtone. a thin shallow flutter of communication.<br \/>\na conversation about pure &#8216;plasticity&#8217;.<br \/>\na sensual code,  and a &#8216;river running through it&#8217; &#8211; emotional (very human) language.<br \/>\ndata, dudes &#8211; on many levels &#8211; despite the initial &#8216;simplicity&#8217; and therein lies the many layers of metaphor, and emotion. not to forget &#8211; the purely graphic &#038; thematic &#8211; punch. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-hand-deta1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-hand-deta1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"David-X.-Levine---hand-deta\" width=\"792\" height=\"594\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-hand-deta1.jpg 792w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-Levine-hand-deta1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nyep, this is the hand that scrubbed that surface &#8211; red !! and waxy &#8211; from the tippy tip tip &#8211; of 70+ colored pencils.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Davix-X.-levine-blue-line.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Davix-X.-levine-blue-line.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Davix-X.-levine---blue-line\" width=\"792\" height=\"594\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12140\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Davix-X.-levine-blue-line.jpg 792w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Davix-X.-levine-blue-line-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 792px) 100vw, 792px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\ncurious to see if &#8216;VANINA!&#8217; was but a &#8216;red&#8217; only stop in an ongoing series of monochromatic overall pieces, we were enthralled to see the hard-edge range &#8211;  of  David Levine&#8217;s portfolio of (very) graphic compositions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-levine-C-S-Wrigh.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-levine-C-S-Wrigh.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"David-X.-levine---C-S-Wrigh\" width=\"799\" height=\"599\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-12141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-levine-C-S-Wrigh.jpg 799w, https:\/\/www.artloversnewyork.com\/zine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/David-X.-levine-C-S-Wrigh-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nDAVID X.
