& yes, that would indeed be . . me.
Photo: EMMY THELANDER / thanks for the great photo . . Emmy !!

on the table, from left:
3 stained glass lightswitches by JONNY CAMPOLO, a slightly more sober stained glass & lead lightswitch by JOSIE KEEFE, that ‘cinema verite’ ‘faux rose flower’ lightswitch, thorns & all – by DAVIS KENNEDY CUTLER, a ‘new age neutral-toned woven’ ceramic lightswitch by Detroit’s pottery collective HAMTRAMCK, an ‘elegant, slightly brute’ candelabra lightswitch – by T.D. SIDELL !!
top right: 2 DIY lamps, that are turned on !!
and . . friggin glow – neon pink – by JEFFREY TRANCHELL.

another great photo of me & JEFFREY, at the TURN ONZ table !!
by . . the great . . EMMY THELANDER !!

here you can peep, from bottom left:
a rather morose / goth switch – turn on that goth !! / yes.
that might even be . . . a human skull? by AMBER LOCKE.

moving along: a truly deconstructed . . shipping label/slash/cardboard & elastic band lightswitch cover – by ALEX KNEPLEY, that looks like it quite literally . . ‘covers’ the light switch / jokers rejoice !!

and, there’s . . MINE !! bring on . . the clowns !!
art jokers, and jugglers !!
it’s titled: ‘Good Night, Grinch Babies’, and it’s also made from everyday materials, that is, if vintage Dr. Seuss baby crib cotton fabric – lies around you house – like it does . . around mine !!
held together by that lightest of adhesives, the lowly, but colorful . . & shapely !! binder reinforcement sticker / the fact that they are laid out in a repeating pattern, that “leads you through the artwork” / is an ode to my . . many long years / of art ‘practice’.
and, my sense of humor about it all, probably stems from the decades of over-ambitious / art mover & groovers . . who deluge me with their over-sized, over-wrought / wannabe . . artist egos.
but, seriously !! let’s not ruin a fun day, and leave it – at that !!
but, mine . . is 100% functional, totally vernacular – with a just touch of textile history / so, yeah . . very light-hearted / ‘light’ . . being the key word /
in a Turn Onz . . show.

ALEX KNEPLEY – he of the joking, cardboard . . switcheroo !!

these were pretty funny, too / do your – laundry !!
‘dirty socks’ lightswitch by – OSCAR BEDFORD

which is not to say there weren’t some very fiery, very skilled ones !!
Lightswitch – by ORLANDO ESTRADA

or even some . . very quiet, even archaeological ones / minimal – is not the word. maybe poetic, and . . bone fragments ?
lightswitch – by DYLAN SPAYSKY

DYLAN SPAYSKY, I heard he runs a gallery on his backyard porch, in Detroit.
does that explain his lightswitch, maybe.

JEFFREY . . made a great, turned-on !! / sandwich board for the . . FLEA !!
with lightswitches by: HAMTRAMCK CERAMCK, JAIME KEITER, TRAVIS BOYER, MAGGIE SULIVAN, LAUREN CLAY & JONNY CAMPLOLO . . !!

the other side of the electrified poster . .
with lightswitches by: THE PERFECT NOTHING CATALOG, JEFFREY TRANCHELL, GLEN BALDRIDGE, JAX PARTLOW (the mirrored one), R BLAIR SULLIVAN, and the great, gaping mask by HENRY CRISSMAN . . !!

we’ll give HENRY CRISSMAN – . . . the last “HELLO” /
TURN ONZ, NADA FLEA
LET THERE BE FUN / LET THERE BE SKILLS / LET THERE BE . . LIGHT !!!!
