Andrew Guenther/DEICIDE

… the sweatshirt reads: “DEICIDE”

Simon Cerigo reports, from the opening day of the ARMORY ART FAIR, that one of the gems to
seek among this huge selection of artwork, is the big painting by ANDREW GUENTHER at the
GREENBERG, VAN DOREN booth. (3 booths to the left of the main entrance)

Simon says this painting is even better than the painting Andrew recently exhibited at ZIEHERSMITH and could be called .. “psychedelic”.

~FLIPBOOK FESTIVAL/Secret Project Robot

Flip Book Festival

Little Cakes presents the 4th INTERNATIONAL FLIPBOOK FESITIVAL at SECRET PROJECT ROBOT, 210 Kent Ave, WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN.

The show went up Jan 19th, but runs until SUNDAY, Feb 11th, 2007 – in fact there’s
going to be a VALENTINE’S DAY CLOSING PARTY on SUNDAY Feb 11th (7-10pm),
with 2 bands playing: KOCHO BI SEXUAL and MUDBOY – since both bands use
organs, i.e. keyboards I guess, its being billed as the: THE DOUBLE ORGAN EXTRAVAGANZA !
(get it? .. Valentine’s Day .. organs …!! )

The exhibit itself is small but mighty ingenious. You can pick up the books and handle them, up close and in person. In fact there are over 100 flipbooks on display. Most of them are small, palm sized. All of them are fun to handle, most are very original & special.

“Devised four years ago by artist ANDREW JEFFREY WRIGHT, as a film festival
without film, each of the flipbooks have been submitted into one of 4 categories
Live Action, Animation, Experimental and Documentary. A prize (of $1.00) goes to
the winner of each category” – (press release)

photos from the opening, including the winning entries, to post shortly

an archival business card for: KAYROCK SCREENPRINTING – ca. summer 2003

KAYROCK SCREENPRINTING and EXPLODING SKY have a few thing in common.
1. they are both talented silkscreen shops run by 2 partners who know each other from very early on. Kayrock and Wolfy are friends from very early teen days.
Mark & Matt Enger are twin brothers.

2. they both have the dubious claim ‘to fame’ of being the only 2 rejects from the DANIEL SILVERSTEIN ‘ONE HUNDRED ARTISTS – ONE HUNDRED T SHIRTS’ of Summer 2003.

The KAYROCK SCREENPRINT submission was banned from the show on the grounds that it was: … get this !!! .. “too political” !!! – that’s a direct quote (Danny Silverstein).

KAYROCK were good sports, they (and their) friends came to the opening in the banned T-shirts, anyways.

The photo of their friend EMILY, in their ‘FUCK BUSH’ t-shirt, below, was published in
in artnet, at the time, and then was picked up by BLACK BOOK.
When we recently caught up with them at the FLIP BOOK PARTY , they said there was a new resurgence of interest in the t-shirt lately.
