MARK ENGER has re-located EXPLODING SKY WORLDWIDE, his silkscreen shop and studio to Newark, New Jersey.

Newark is the new artist place for cheap lofts. Its, a little more, than 15 mins into Manhattan by PATH train.

some people have dogs, .. Mark Enger has pocket racing bikes. They're capable of going 60 MPH, and the streets in his neighborhood are deserted enough, that you can get way with it. Mark did all the artwork.

a few "flashes from the past" - this vintage KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN lamp used to hang in the kitchen of the original farmhouse, on "the farm" - the JOSH HARRIS upstate apple orchard retreat - that he turned to, when he burned out on New York City. he took Exploding Sky with him, for a while.

PSEUDO.com cap - in the good ole dot.com days, all you needed was JOSH HARRIS & PSEUDO as a patron and you were set. EXPLODING SKY rode the wave and still does custom work for Josh, today.

new stuff - Mark Enger shows us an old fireman's ledger he just found on the corner of his street - it was just tossed. finding graphic design inspiration in the penmanship - he says, .. "they'll never handwrite like that again", EXPLODING SKY, June 12, 2006

vintage fireman's "sign-in" ledger. an old firehouse was being torn down around the corner & it was just trashed - lucky Mark Enger is in the neighborhood, to save it from destruction. a lot of contemporary logos & graphic designs have roots in antique script & penmanship flourishes. EXPLODING SKY,

an army brat, who grew up in a family of antique/replica weapons craftsmen (they fabricate replica guns for civil war re-enactments, among other things), they are ALL ultra-serious weapons/gun collectors, as well. MARK ENGER is also a weapons aficionado - this is a World War I trench knife, that he just acquired in Jersey. It cost $200.
EXPLODING SKY, June 12, 2006

Mark Enger says that WW I warfare was alot like Medieval times. when you ran out of bullets and the enemy was swarming over the trenches, this was what you had. you could stab as many as fast as you could, with the lethal blade, and the handle was designed to smash faces. according to Mark, there aren't too many trench knives around anymore, esp in mint & lethal condition, like these, though it was American standard issue, in 1917. as we leave, we say good-bye to MARK ENGER, perched on one of his pocket racing bikes. EXPLODING SKY,
June 12, 2006
the building is full of period details, like the mosaic tiles on the lobby wall, behind Mark - it was built originally to house the glass workshops for LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY. It still has the original multi-story furnace, in the building's central core.

we stop to admire, for one last time, a previously overlooked detail of the custom design work MARK ENGER has embellished on one of his beloved pocket racing bikes, EXPLODING SKY, June 12, 2006.

MARK ENGER's silk screen shop is on the ground floor of this turn-of-the-century industrial building in Newark, New Jersey, which rents for about $1,000 for 1,000 sq. ft. & is a 5 minute walk from the PATH train station, into Manhattan. EXPLODING SKY, June 12, 2006
studio visit photo
just before departing, we learn that the building has a very interesting arts & crafts pedigree - it was in this building that turn-of-the-century workshops produced the original colored glass, and gold jewelry designs, for LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY.
