ERICA SHIRES, 'Untitled', 2004, wet plate collodion. For this body of work Erica used the wet plate process, which dates from 1851. In this early photographic process, collodion is poured onto a coated aluminum plate, which while still wet and light sensitive, is inserted directly into a camera's film holder and exposed for up to 1 minute. The images are unique, i.e. one-of-a-kind 'prints'. the technique produces "mysteriously distorted images in which crisp detail and blurry fragments intermingle" - all the images are 7-1/8 x 6- 1/2" and priced at $850.
